Listen up guys, taking care of your skin is NOT “too feminine” of a thing to do.  It’s actually something the women in your life will appreciate and praise you for!  A lot of men I’ve come across have great skin; however, that’s no excuse not to care for it and keep it looking great!  There are also men who have skin problems that may need a more extensive skin care plan.
As a man, I know you don’t want to invest in all the products and take all the time caring for your skin like we women do.  You’ll be happy to know that my advice revolves around ONE word, SIMPLICITY.  Keep it simple guys!  Just because you hear the words “you need to have a skin care routine,” doesn’t mean it has to be complex.  First, be sure to consider your skin type (normal, oily, dry) and be mindful that all products do not work for all skin types.  Pay attention to the packaging which will (in most cases) tell you the skin types the product is geared toward.

1.      Cleanse – Purchase a good face wash or facial soap.  Cleansing your face well (not just glazing over it in the shower) removes all the dirt and toxins that have built up on your skin from your daily activities.  Cleanse, rinse, and that’s it (for that step anyway)!

2.      Scrub – We women refer to it as exfoliating, but to keep it manly for you, we’ll just say scrub.  Get a facial scrub that isn’t too harsh.  You don’t want it to feel like it’s scratching off your skin.  A scrub that gently removes the dead skin is perfect.  Your skin should feel renewed after a good scrub.

3.      Moisturize – Because you’re a man, I will even let you get away with just putting some body lotion on your face after cleansing/scrubbing.  HOWEVER, my preference is for you to use a moisturizer made for the face, preferably with SPF.  Men, you need SPF to protect your skin from harmful sun rays as well.

Completing these steps daily will ensure you maintain your great skin and perhaps make it look even better.  In terms of brands I recommend, please look into the men’s lines from Neutrogena, Nivea, Clinique, Jack Black, and Kiehl’s.  They all have amazing products that men love using.  If you have problems with acne, please consider picking up products for acne prone skin.  Also, if you have breakouts often, consider a diet change.  Reduce your carbohydrate and dairy intake.  This will reduce the inflammation in your body that can cause acne.  Regular exercise is also really good for the health of your skin.

I hope this post helped you to enforce or change your beliefs regarding men and skin care.  Please do comment below and let me know if you have any further questions.  Also, I’d love to hear about your new and/or tried-and-true skin care routines.

Till next time,

Sarah Robyn
